Spradlin Distinguished Achievement Award
for Clinical Excellence

The Spradlin Distinguished Achievement Award for Clinical Excellence is named in honor of Will Spradlin, M.D., who is considered the father of the integrated Internal Medicine - Psychiatry specialty, and thus the predecessor of integrated medicine. Dr. Spradlin served as the Chairman of Psychiatry for the University of Virginia, School of Medicine, and the recipient of numerous national and international teaching awards. His work in psychiatry over many years serve as part of the foundation for the modern subspecialty of psychiatry and integrated treatment approaches in neurocognitive disorders and traumatic brain injury.


Clinicians awarded this distinguished honor are chosen by a panel of distinguished experts and are evaluated based on the following criteria, the weight of each determined by each individual panel:

1) Excellence in clinical medicine in diagnosing and treating neurocognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders, with specific emphasis on patients who have suffered a traumatic brain injury.

2) Innovation in developing system-based solutions to current complex problems.

3) Excellence and Innovation in Research.

4) Strength of character and a clear commitment to patients in the face of complex and difficult circumstances.


Chosen by a panel of distinguished clinical experts, those awarded this honor receive:

Recognition at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Neurocognitive Medicine Formally distinguished as a Fellow in the American College of Neurocognitive Medicine, A $10,000 monetary grant to the organization or charity of choice.
